Union organizing is at the core of CATU’s work to empower workers and strengthen collective representation in the workplace. CATU actively engages with workers in garment, footwear, travel goods, and other sectors to support the formation and development of democratic and independent trade unions. Through workplace outreach, factory gate meetings, worker consultations, and organizing campaigns, CATU educates workers about their rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining. The organization assists workers in establishing local unions, registering trade unions, recruiting members, and developing workplace leadership. CATU also supports workers facing anti-union discrimination, union busting, and retaliation from employers. By building strong workplace organizations, CATU enables workers to collectively address issues such as low wages, poor working conditions, excessive overtime, short-term contracts, and violations of labour rights.
